Penalties

Read a penalty and understand how its status changes.

A RaceControl penalty card identifies the target driver, type, reason and current status. The available types include warning, drive-through, stop-and-go, time, position, grid and disqualification. What an organizer may issue and how it is judged depends on that event’s rules and integration.

Types you may receive

Type What to look for
WARNING An informational warning; it does not require a pit-lane service.
DRIVE-THROUGH Pass through the pit lane as instructed, without serving a stop.
STOP & GO Enter the pit lane and stop for the stated time. Follow any no-service instruction shown by the HUD.
TIME A time adjustment associated with the event result.
POSITION / GRID A position or grid decision with the indicated value.
DISQUALIFICATION Follow the explicit retirement or pit instruction displayed.

A time, position or grid decision is not normally served by entering the pits. The HUD shows the instruction appropriate to that decision. For a stop-and-go, reaching zero on the timer may still require leaving the pit lane before completion is confirmed.

Understand the status

PENDING means it has been issued. SERVING means a service attempt is in progress. SERVICE INVALID means the attempt did not meet the conditions and may need repeating. SERVED means the system or officials have marked it complete. An official may also revoke a penalty; the console records that change.

If the HUD shows a deadline, act within it. If a service appears wrong or you disagree with a decision, use the event organizer’s appeal procedure rather than making an unsafe maneuver on track. The incident guide explains how case notices relate to penalties.
